Watch This Family Reunite With Beloved Dog They Thought Died In California Wildfires

Firefighters are slowly making progress on the California wildfires but 40 people have already lost their lives with more still missing. But fFinally, a small glimmer of hope and happiness in the form of a 4-year-old family pet.

Jack Weaver and his brother-in-law Patrick Widen couldn’t get through police barricades to check on Jack’s mother’s house. Weaver’s mother was safe from the fires but the beloved family dog, Izzy, was still unaccounted for and the two men wanted desperately to find the Bernese mountain dog.

The two men hiked in a three-mile radius around the Santa Rosa, California neighbourhood, fearing the worst, but after a few minutes of yelling her name, Izzy emerged from the rubble unharmed.

Weaver spoke to The Guardian about the happy reunion.

“My parents woke up with flames surrounding their house in wikiup bridgeway and had seconds to get out. In the chaos of trying to escape, my parent’s dog Izzy ran from them. My mom couldn’t chase after her without risking her own life. …They had to drive through walls of flames and across a burning wooden bridge to get to mark west springs road and to safety. They lost everything, but my mom was most devastated about leaving Izzy. My brother and husband were determined to try to get back to my parent’s property to see if by some miracle Izzy survived.”
