Game of Thrones: Could we we see Lady Stoneheart?

Still with us? Cool.

Ok, book readers have been hoping for the appearance of Lady Stoneheart since the Red Wedding, knowing that it would be almost as big a shock as the Red Wedding was to none book readers.

Lady Stoneheart is the resurrected form of Catelyn Stark. Unlike the recent, seemingly consequence-free resurrection of Jon Snow, hers doesn’t go quite so well. As the story goes, after the Red Wedding, Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr of the Bannerless Men fished her corpse out of water in the Riverlands. With her throat slit and days-dead, it was almost impossible to bring her back to life. But Beric Dondarrion, resurrected by the Lord of Light himself on many occasions, gave up his remaining power to bring her back from the grave.

Since then, Catelyn has been called Lady Stoneheart, her skin grey and her slit throat often making her unable to speak coherently. She now commands the Bannerless Men, roving around the Riverlands, hanging members of the Frey family for their sins against the Starks. Eventually, her path crosses with Brienne and Podrick, and she commands them to seek out Jaime Lannister, another old enemy, and end him. Brienne doesn’t want to, saying that Jaime has changed, but Catelyn has her nearly hanged until Brienne shouts out a word. The word, presumably, is yes, but we won’t know that for sure until the next book.

Does any of this sound familiar?

It should, given the situation the show has now set up in the past few weeks:

– We saw a glimpse of Catelyn Stark’s death in a vision Bran had.

– The Riverlands plot from the books was thought to be cut once Jaime went to Dorne, but now its becoming a major focus

– Walder Frey has been brought back into the fold as a villain, and has Edmure Tully prisoner.

– Frey’s men report that many groups are making trouble for them in the Riverlands, one of them being the Bannerless Men, who were again name dropped this week.

– Jaime is in the Riverlands to help sort all this out.

– Brienne and Podrick are being sent to the Riverlands to try and recruit Catelyn’s uncle, the Blackfish, for Jon and Sansa’s war against Ramsay Bolton.

– Benjen Stark seems to be playing the carachter “Coldhands” sho should have appeared ages ago, but has been saved up until now – a bit like Lady Stoneheart

What do you think? Could this be the end of episode 10 shocker that nobody has seen coming? Or do you think it would be too crazy to bring three Starks back from the dead in a single season?
